Direct Ion Storage (DIS) Technology at Work

What is Direct Ion Storage?

Direct Ion Storage (DIS) technology plays a crucial role in radiation dosimetry by measuring and recording the exposure to ionizing radiation. It does this by employing a solid-state material that can capture and store radiation-generated charged particles. When radiation interacts with the detector, it releases these charged particles, causing them to move within the material. The movement of these particles creates an electric current, which is then measured to determine the amount of radiation exposure. DIS technology is advantageous in dosimetry because it offers precise and reliable measurements and provides a permanent record of radiation exposure, making it invaluable in any setting for ensuring safe radiation levels.

How Direct Ion Storage (DIS) Technology Works

  • Surface of the floating gate is exposed to the surrounding space.
  • Ions in the form of electric charge are gathered within the floating gate.
  • Source anode has a non-volatile memory cell element.
  • Memory cell is surrounded by an ion chamber filled with gas.
  • Secondary electrons generated by initial interactions within the chamber wall ionize the gas inside.
  • Ions are separated between the electrode and wall, then stored in the memory element cell.

     How Instadose® Works

Instadose® Wireless Dosimetry System

The Instadose® wireless dosimetry system consists of three main components: a wireless dosimeter, a communication device (either a smart device with the Instadose Companion Mobile App or an InstaLink3 Gateway), and an online reporting system accessed through a PC. These three components work together to capture, monitor, and transmit an individual's exposure to ionizing radiation and maintain a comprehensive archive of official dose records for both dosimeters and wearers.

To transmit dose data, ANY wireless Instadose® dosimeter MUST be within range of an active communication device: 30 feet of an InstaLink™ Gateway or 5 feet of a smart device with the Instadose Companion Mobile App open.

Instadose® USB

Instadose® USB is the only accredited USB-compatible dosimeter that allows wearers to measure their radiation dose anytime using an internet-enabled PC.

Perform dose reads anytime in just three steps:

1. Log-in to www.instadose.com
2. Connect the Instadose® USB dosimeter to the USB port.
3. Click "Read Device" on the main screen.
